While this is something each person must do individually, we can help to explain the process and the documentation that needs to be submitted to NDIA.

All Australian people are eligible to be covered by the safety network (insurance) provided the NDIS when they acquire a permanent disability; thus the name National Disability Insurance Scheme – NDIS.

The NDIS supports are funded through the ‘Reasonable and Necessary’ principle (see next question).

By ‘reasonable and necessary’ supports, the NDIS requires that the supports to be related to their disability, to meet the person’s needs and to be likely assisting with achieving their goals. Also reasonable and necessary supports should not include day-to-day living costs and must not be double-dipping supports being supported by other mainstream services (department or government system). Also NDIS will not provide supports, which should be (more reasonably) provided by a family or available through a community service.

Enhancing your ability to coordinate services and supports: providing you
with information, refer you and linking you to buy services and to engage
with service providers.
Supporting you to be more independent and to direct your own services

• Set up your NDIS plan.
• Assist you in understanding the supports in your NDIS plan.
• Ensure you are aware of complaints mechanisms.
• Assist you in navigating key NDIS processes including accessing your
“My-place Participant portal”.
• Make referrals for any assessments in your NDIS plan.
• Ensure equipment supports in your NDIS plan are managed.
• Ensure you have service agreements with your providers including us.
• Explore mainstream and community supports.
• Assisting you to monitor your NDIS plan’s expenditure
• Assisting with your endeavors in managing hard times, if any.

When Support coordination is fundedin your NDIS plan, it will be a separate fund (support) that will not affect any other support/fund in your NDIS plan.
